Important safety information

Don't take Lovegra if you take nitrates, often prescribed for chest pain, as this may cause a sudden, unsafe drop in blood pressure.

Discuss your general health status with your doctor to ensure that you are healthy enough to engage in sexual activity. If you experience chest pain, nausea, or any other discomforts during sex, seek immediate medical help.

As with any ED tablet, in the rare event of an erection lasting more than 4 hours, seek immediate medical help to avoid long-term injury.

If you are older than age 65, or have serious liver or kidney problems, you should NOT use Lovegra as the 100mg dose may be too high for you. If you are taking protease inhibitors, such as for the treatment of HIV, you should NOT use Lovegra as the 100mg dose may be too high for you.

In rare instances, men taking PDE5 inhibitors (oral erectile dysfunction medicines, including Lovegra) reported a sudden decrease or loss of vision. It is not possible to determine whether these events are related directly to these medicines or to other factors. If you experience sudden decrease or loss of vision, stop taking PDE5 inhibitors, including Lovegra, and call a doctor right away.

Sudden decrease or loss of hearing has been rarely reported in people taking PDE5 inhibitors, including Lovegra. It is not possible to determine whether these events are related directly to the PDE5 inhibitors or to other factors. If you experience sudden decrease or loss of hearing, stop taking Lovegra and contact a doctor right away.

If you have prostate problems or high blood pressure for which you take medicines called alpha blockers you should NOT use Lovegra as the 100mg dose may be too high for you. Lovegra does not protect against sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV.

The first drug to treat sexual dysfunction in premenopausal women - dubbed the "female Viagra" - has received approval from the US Food and Drug Administration.

Flibanserin

Manufactured by Sprout Pharmaceuticals, flibanserin (brand name Addyi) has been given the green light by the federal drug agency for the treatment of hypoactive sexual desire disorder (HSDD) - a condition characterized by low sexual desire.

It is estimated that around 1 in 10 women develop HSDD, and up to 40% experience the condition at some point in their lives. Psychological factors, such as low self-esteem, stress or mental health problems may contribute to low sexual desire, as well as hormone changes or physical factors, such as fatigue or lifestyle habits.

While the exact mechanisms by which flibanserin works is unclear, Sprout Pharmaceuticals believe it corrects an imbalance in brain chemicals that are responsible for sexual desire.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) say a 100-mg dose of the drug should be taken once daily just before bedtime. Patients should discontinue use if they experience no improvement in sexual desire within 8 weeks.

"Today's approval provides women distressed by their low sexual desire with an approved treatment option," says Dr. Janet Woodcock, director of the Center for Drug Evaluation and Research (CDER) at the FDA.

"The FDA strives to protect and advance the health of women," she continues, "and we are committed to supporting the development of safe and effective treatments for female sexual dysfunction."
